Tiwanaku

Alright Sunday we went to Tiwanaku, which is a super old ancient Aymara city located near Lake Titicaca. This place makes Inca ruins seem like they were built a few years ago.

This is La Paz from the side of the road where the minibus stopped to let us take pictures. This is on the way up and out of La Paz.

Another ridiculous view of La Paz taken from the bus.

The Altiplano. Flatness. Something we never thought we'd encounter again.

Drainage system! I wonder if they used the rational equation to design this. If they did I hope the area is less than 15 acres or else my fellow civils know why the people who made this city are dead now.

In June, thousands of Aymara will gather here for the festival of the Sun. I believe it's like their new year.

Statue of a priest.

A tomb they found mummies in. Our awesome tour guide tucked his head and his legs into his sweater to demonstrate how the mummies look when they were found. It was pretty funny.

Templo de Kalasasaya

This is a giant model they used to plan the building of the temples and pyramids. Too bad they couldn't just use AutoCad.

They carved all these faces into the walls of another temple.

The church in the modern city of Tiwanaku. They took many of the blocks used to build it from the ancient temples.
